Those on a Fixed Income Should Have Fixed Expenses
With average life expectancy rising higher and higher:
With average life expectancy rising higher and higher Medicare has become a necessity for individuals and families to navigate. Those in retirement on fixed income require fixed expenses! If Grandma Judy requires specialized care for a peculiar affliction her greatest concern should be focusing on getting better. Not jumping through hoops to alleviate extensive medical bills!
A few things to note:
Medicare is Federally Regulated Coverage and is Guaranteed Renewable for the rest of your life!
Once you have an original Medicare plan you will be protected for as long as you need.
You can also see any doctor or hospital in the country that accepts Medicare.
You don’t require any referral to see a specialist and most plans even cover foreign travel emergencies.
As you turn 65 there are many options available to you, Original Medicare is divided into various parts designated by a letter.
A+B are paid for by your taxes throughout your working career.
Part D covers your prescription coverage (and should be re-evaluated every year).
Parts F, G, K, L, M and N are the different plans available to supplement your primary Medicare coverage.
Under a part G for example, your annual out of pocket maximum is.
The majority of Medicare Supplement insurance plans do not cover Part B excess charges. Excess charges occur when doctors and providers do not accept Medicare assignment. These are additional charges outside of the Medicare-approved charge. For example, Medicare’s allowed charge for a doctor’s appointment could be $100, but the physician could choose not to accept that amount, and instead charge an additional 15% for the appointment. In this example, Medicare will pay 80% of the allowed charge, sending the physician $80. John Doe is now responsible for paying not only the remaining $20, but also the excess 15% charge, another $15, making the total out-of-pocket cost $35. Medicare Supplement insurance Plan G covers this excess charge. Under Original Medicare with a Part G supplement your annual out of pocket maximum is only your Part B deductible of $203 (in 2021)
Medicare Advantage Plans
Medicare Advantage Plans are another way to get your Medicare Part A and Part B coverage. Medicare Advantage Plans, sometimes called “Part C” or “MA Plans,” are offered by Medicare-approved private companies that must follow rules set by Medicare. Most Medicare Advantage Plans include drug coverage (Part D). In many cases, you’ll need to use health care providers who participate in the plan’s network and service area for the lowest costs. These plans set a limit on what you’ll have to pay out-of-pocket each year for covered services, to help protect you from unexpected costs. Some plans offer out-of-network coverage, usually at a higher cost. Remember, you must use the card from your Medicare Advantage Plan to get your Medicare-covered services. Keep your red, white, and blue Medicare card in a safe place because you’ll need it if you ever switch back to Original Medicare.
